I would recommend studies at the US because there is lot to avail at any uni in US, as long as you are ready to put in a lot of hard work, you can do a lot with the amount of resources available. Make sure that you do not just focus on academics but do a lot of extracurricular as well.
I did have to give TOEFL. SAT is usually necessary but I escaped from it by providing strong transcripts. I did need a visa which is called F1 visa being referred to as student visa. Visa interview process is varied for everyone mainly because it depends on numerous factors based on who is interviewing, what school you are choosing and your record and background as well. I flew with Air India and it wasn't hard to get the tickets as well. I flew from Mumbai to Chicago and then Chicago to New York. From what I remember, I did not get a student discount. Baggage rules have changed drastically from past four years so you might want to check the current rules but I think you are allowed two big suitcases with one carry one and one laptop bag. Fortunately, immigration wasn't an issue and I did get Meet and Greet service at the university.
I didn't have any scholarship or financial aid.
I loved my program and the professors were very helpful. They are strict sometimes but its all worth it for you learn a lot.
I lived on campus throughout including dorms for one year, then I was a resident advisor for a year, and then I lived in a four bedroom university apartment. I loved all the facilities at the uni for they are very well equipped as well as good maintained areas. Being on F1 visa, you cant work off campus unless and until you have an internship related to your major. You can work on campus and do jobs not more than 20 hours at library, labs, food courts. Social Scene depends on individual to individual. I had a great time at school and night life is spectacular. It's all fabulous as long as you know what do you want to do and how much you want to do. It's a cold part of US and we being in Upstate NY get a lot of snow from October to March.
In terms of jobs, things are really different for the economy is horrible right now. But it is always tougher for you to get a job compared to American resident not because of any discrimination based on race or anything, but mainly for they want to know what is extra special in you that they should sponsor your work visa. There is nothing like placement cell but they do have career fairs where you can job hunt. Work permit process is tough and easy and it is tough to find a company who wants to sponsor your work visa but once you find a company who is willing to do that, it is easy in terms of paperwork but that is only this year as the number of applicants for work visa are less. Otherwise, the applicant pool is so big that they have to pull out names through a lottery system which can be tricky then as your name may or may not be pulled out even though a company was willing to do your visa.
