I attended the MBA program at Auburn from August 2001 to Dec 2002. I also pursued a Masters in Human Resource Management from the August 2003 to May 2004. Both these programs were extremely succinct and practical courses, designed to cater to students even without real world experience, prior to joining the programs.
Assistantships are sometimes hard to come by in the first semester of joining, but they usually are available to all students in the second semester onwards.
The course fees was affordable. The faculty of both programs were encouraging and motivating. The class sizes were small, allowing better understanding of lectures and more interaction with the teacher and amongst students. Such environments are necessary to make international students feel comfortable and get the best out of the program. Don't be fooled by the friendly atmosphere though, the program is as intense and as structured as many of those offered by higher rated colleges. The rules of the program are set upfront and expectations are clear. Visit http://www.mba.business.auburn.edu/ for more information on the MBA program and other Graduate Management programs. The MBA office staff are extremely helpful with queries and they are specially attentive to international students. Auburn's USP is FOOTBALL. A reporter once wrote for a local paper in Louisiana, that going to watch football in Auburn was like going to mass in Rome!
Off-campus housing is affordable, especially if you room with another Indian student. The college will provide some assistance in procurement of summer internships, which is an integral part of the program, if the student does not have prior work experience of five years. However, it is also left to the resources of the student to garner one for himself. There is ample time for this though. The southern culture permeates every day life and I loved Auburn for its sweet and simple people. The college campus was an extension of the warmth I felt from the college campus of my undergraduate years in Manipal. If you study in Auburn, you leave with a deep understanding and appreciation of the Dixie Land. Auburn is said to be the 'sweetest village on the plains' and it truly is. As with all universities, Auburn University too has an Indian student association and it provides international students with needed assistance in housing and acclimatisation. The cost of living in Auburn, Alabama was low.
